  • 6 cups apples Peeled, cored, and sliced (about 2 1/2 lbs; Honeycrisp or Granny Smith recommended)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice Freshly squeezed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats Do not use instant oats
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar Packed
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter Cold and cut into 1/2-inch cubes

Notes

Storage: Store leftover crisp covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in a 350°F oven for 15 minutes or in the microwave for a warm treat. Make-Ahead: You can prepare the apple filling and the crumble topping separately up to a day in advance. Store them in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator, then assemble and bake when ready. Variations: Add 1/4 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts to the topping for extra crunch, or stir in 1/2 cup of fresh or frozen cranberries to the apple filling for a tart twist. Serving Suggestions: Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of fresh cream.
