Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 4 medium apples such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith, cored and sliced 1/4-inch thick
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp cold unsalted butter cut into small cubes
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts optional

Notes

Storage: Cover and refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes to re-crisp the topping, or enjoy cold. Make-Ahead: Assemble the dish up to the point of baking, cover, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Add 5-10 minutes to the baking time if starting from cold. Variations: Substitute pears for half the apples. Add 1/4 tsp of nutmeg or cardamom to the topping for extra spice. For a gluten-free version, use certified gluten-free oats and a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend. Serving Suggestions: Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a dollop of Greek yogurt, or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
