Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup dried hibiscus flowers ensure they are food-grade
  • 4 cups water divided into 2 cups for boiling and 2 cups for thinning
  • 3 tbsp fresh ginger peeled and thinly sliced
  • 0.5 cup fresh lemon juice approx. 3-4 large lemons
  • 0.33 cup raw honey or maple syrup for a vegan option
  • 1 tsp lemon zest for extra aromatic oils
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper optional, for a metabolism boost

Notes

Storage: Keep refrigerated in a glass pitcher for up to 5 days. Make-ahead: You can freeze the concentrated hibiscus-ginger base in ice cube trays to add to sparkling water later. For a sparkling version, replace the final 2 cups of flat water with chilled club soda or seltzer just before serving.
